What are the responsibilities and job description for the Baker/ Pastry Chef position at Puller Veterans Care Center?
Purpose of the Position:
Prepare, bake, and finish a variety of breads, pastries, desserts, and baked goods that align with resident dietary needs and preferences
Modify recipes for texture and consistency (IDDSI levels, diabetic-friendly options, low-sodium, gluten-free, allergy-aware, etc.)
Collaborate with Dietitian and Dietary Manager to ensure menu items meet nutritional guidelines for long-term care residents
Assist in developing seasonal and specialty dessert menus that enhance resident satisfaction and quality of life
Food Preparation
Ensures that dietary requirements are correct and puree consistency is correct. Ensure quality in all areas. Set up DOM serving area before meals. Prepare, bake, and finish a variety of breads, pastries, desserts, and baked goods that align with resident dietary needs and preferences
Modify recipes for texture and consistency (IDDSI levels, diabetic-friendly options, low-sodium, gluten-free, allergy-aware, etc.)
Collaborate with Dietitian and Dietary Manager to ensure menu items meet nutritional guidelines for residents
Support overall dietary operations by assisting with meal prep, plating, and serving during peak periods if needed
Communicate effectively with supervisors, dietary staff, and nursing staff to ensure timely meal service
Maintain daily production logs, temperature records, and cleaning schedules
Report equipment issues promptly and assist with preventive maintenance routines
Attend team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Follow standardized recipes, serving sizes, and presentation standards in accordance with facility policies and state/federal regulations
Ensure safe food handling practices and maintain sanitary work areas (comply with ServSafe and infection control standards)
Label and store all food products according to established guidelines to prevent contamination and waste
Participate in routine dietary audits and quality checks
Other Duties
Performs other duties as may be assigned that are within Dietary department’s mission and as situations warrant in meeting the overall needs of the facility. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.63 - $24.04 per hour
