This opportunity seeks a dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) or Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide on-site support in an early childhood school setting. The role is based in the Fremont/San Jose, CA area, serving a classroom of approximately 25 to 27 students diagnosed with moderate to severe autism. Most students are non-verbal and use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices or tablets, requiring a compassionate and resourceful approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct speech and language therapy services tailored to students with moderate to severe autism.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized speech and communication goals.
- Utilize AAC devices and other communication tools effectively to support students expressive and receptive language skills.
- Monitor student progress, maintain accurate documentation, and adjust strategies as needed.
- Engage with families and educators to ensure consistency and positive communication outcomes during and beyond therapy sessions.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid credential as an SLPA or SLP, with current licensure or certification as required by the state of California.
- Comfort and experience working with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, particularly those who are non-verbal.
- Knowledge of AAC systems and technology, with the ability to support students in device usage.
- Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a commitment to fostering student growth in communicative abilities.
Position Details:
- Location: Fremont/San Jose, California
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00/8:30 AM to 4:00/4:30 PM with some schedule flexibility; full-time hours preferred.
