Position Overview:
The Controller will oversee all accounting operations for a growing oilfield services company supporting Permian Basin operations. This role is responsible for financial reporting, cost accounting, compliance, internal controls, and supporting operational leadership with timely, accurate financial insights. The ideal candidate has deep experience in oilfield services accounting, job costing, and managing accounting teams in a fast-paced, field-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Close
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Prepare and review GAAP-compliant financial statements
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition (percentage-of-completion, day rates, or service-based billing as applicable)
- Maintain general ledger integrity and chart of accounts
Compliance & Controls
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements
- Coordinate audits, reviews, and lender reporting
- Manage sales/use tax, property tax, and multi-state filings as applicable
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for the business segment
Cash Flow & Working Capital
- Oversee AR/AP, billing, collections, and vendor payments
- Monitor cash flow, credit facilities, and covenant compliance
- Improve working capital processes and DSO
Leadership & Systems
- Manage and develop the accounting team
- Implement and improve accounting systems, processes, and reporting tools
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, HR, and executive leadership
- Support ERP or accounting system optimization (e.g., NetSuite, Sage, Oracle, QuickBooks Enterprise)
Qualifications:
Required
- CPA (active or inactive) required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior experience in oilfield services, energy services, construction, or asset-heavy operations
- Strong job costing and operational accounting background
- Experience managing and developing accounting staff
Preferred
- Public accounting background (Big 4 or regional firm)
