What are the responsibilities and job description for the Downstream Equipment Engineer position at Piper Companies?
Piper Companies is seeking a Downstream Equipment Engineer for a rapidly growing biomanufacturing organization located in Cary, North Carolina (NC). The Downstream Equipment Engineer will support startup and transition of downstream equipment into GMP manufacturing. This will be an on-site position based out of Holly Springs, NC.
Responsibilities of the Downstream Equipment Engineer:
- Support startup and commissioning of downstream equipment (chromatography, UF/DF, buffer prep)
- Ensure equipment readiness and smooth transition into GMP manufacturing
- Collaborate cross-functionally to troubleshoot and optimize startup processes
- Execute final equipment verifications and partner with QA, Automation, and Maintenance
- Provide hands-on support during initial production runs and documentation
- Contribute to continuous improvement and coordinate with a 15-person operations team
Qualifications for the Downstream Equipment Engineer:
- 5 years of hands-on experience in downstream operations including chromatography, UF/DF, and buffer preparation
- Proven track record of transitioning equipment from project phase to full-scale manufacturing operations
- Strong understanding of GMP environments and large-scale bioprocessing systems
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and optimize purification processes in a production setting
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
Compensation for the Downstream Equipment Engineer:
- Salary Range: $125,000-$149,000/year
