Position Description:
Our client is seeking a Litigation Defense Associate Attorney for their Seattle office. This role focuses on defense litigation across a wide range of insurance defense matters, as well as school law (representing schools, teachers’ unions, etc.). The ideal candidate will have 3–6 years of experience (preferably 5–6 years) and be capable of handling matters independently while interacting directly with clients. This position offers significant hands-on substantive experience and a collaborative, development-focused culture.
Responsibilities
- Handle a variety of defense litigation cases, including general commercial litigation, liability, and insurance defense
- Manage cases independently, including depositions, motions practice, and trial preparation
- Communicate directly with clients and maintain strong client relationships
- Collaborate with partners and advisors for professional development
- Represent clients in school law matters and other specialized defense areas
Required Qualifications
- Previous law firm experience required; Am Law 200, leading regional, or major boutique firm experience preferred
- 3–6 years of litigation experience (ideally 5–6 years)
- Strong drafting, writing, and research skills
- Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills
- Washington State Bar membership
- Ability to manage cases independently and meet billable hour requirements (1800 annually)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in insurance defense, school law, or public entity defense
- Deposition, motions practice, and trial experience
- Strong substantive experience in general commercial litigation and liability matters
