Position OverviewThe Classroom Assistant for the kinder class plays an essential supporting role in creating a harmonious, effective learning environment in collaboration with the Lead Teacher. This position balances class management, instructional support, and independent teaching of designated subjects (for iready and Amira-Computer assessment and online course ), while upholding the values and pedagogical approach of Waldorf education.
This is a hybrid role requiring both supportive presence and occasional independent instruction. It is ideal for individuals who are passionate about education, enjoy working with pre-teens, and are eager to grow in their teaching journey within a Waldorf-inspired setting.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Classroom Support
- Arrive before the students to check in with the Lead Teacher about the day's plans and student needs.
- Support classroom rhythm and transitions, helping maintain a peaceful, structured environment aligned with Waldorf principles.
- Assist with classroom management, small group instruction, and one-on-one academic or behavioral support.
- Help prepare materials and maintain the cleanliness and order of the classroom.
- Grade/edit student work and assist with simple documentation or reporting.
Instructional Leadership (Partial)
- Independently lead 1-2 computer period per day (curriculum provided).
- Foster respectful, age-appropriate learning spaces that encourage student engagement and confidence.
Recess & Supervision Duties
- Supervise recess and lunch as part of the shared duty schedule.
- Ensure student safety and promote positive social interactions during these unstructured times.
Professional Expectations
- Participate in staff meetings and designated professional development days as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality, comply with mandated reporting laws, and uphold school behavior and safety policies.
- Engage in daily check-ins with the Lead Teacher to review progress, address concerns, and plan together.
- Receive formal evaluations and participate in feedback conversations to support professional growth.
Qualifications & Experience
- Preferred: Experience working with children in a classroom setting, especially upper elementary or middle school.
- Preferred: Familiarity with or interest in Waldorf education.
- Clear communication skills, reliability, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to lead lessons using provided curriculum with confidence, presence, and kindness.
- High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree or relevant coursework in education preferred.
Onboarding & Support
- Assistants will be given pre-planning time for onboarding, including orientation to school expectations, classroom rhythm, discipline approaches, and Waldorf principles.
- Ongoing mentorship and support from the Lead Teacher and administrative team are provided throughout the year.
