TITLE: Mathematics Teacher – High School
SUMMARY: Reporting to the Building Principal, the High School Math Teacher develops
competence in basic mathematical skills and an understanding of the structure of mathematics;
motivates students to apply mathematical understanding and skills in the solution of practical
problems; and encourages students to develop talents in the field of mathematics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to teach Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry
Willingness to collaborate with colleagues to plan well-structured units of instruction that are
standards-based
Ability to design Mathematics lessons that incorporate the Standards of Mathematical Practice
Responsible for developing and maintaining a classroom environment that is conducive to high
quality learning and teaching
Responsible for using formative assessment data to inform and adjust practice in service of
student achievement
Responsible for assisting building level administration in supervision of all students and for
enforcing all school-wide polices
Responsible for using a variety of two-way communication strategies to elicit the support and
partnership of families in ensuring that our students successfully access the curriculum
Responsible for using student learning data to regularly inform and adjust instructional practices
Must be a team player who contributes in a positive way to the school culture and climate
Willingness to accept feedback from administration to improve instructional practice
Other duties as assigned by building level administration
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from an accredited college/university. Massachusetts DESE
certification and licensure in Math 9-12 as well as well as evidence of meeting all Massachusetts
Department of Education standards for Highly Qualified Teacher.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of basic math including calculations using fractions, percent, and/or ratios; preparing
a variety of documents; facilitating group discussions; analyzing situations to define issues and
draw conclusions; policies, regulations and/or laws; age appropriate activities; lesson plan
requirements; stages of child development; and behavioral management strategies.
Skill-based competencies include applying assessment instruments; operating standard office
equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining
accurate records.
Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; use
job-related equipment; flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of
circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; operate equipment using
standardized methods; work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; problem solving is
required to analyze issues and create action plans; maintaining constructive relationships;
adapting to changing work priorities; maintaining confidentiality; exhibiting tact and
patience; and working flexible hours.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a
stationary position for extended periods; position oneself to demonstrate technique; move up to

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work is generally performed indoors in a school classroom.
