Journeyman HVAC Chiller Technician
We are seeking an experienced Commercial and Industrial HVAC Chiller Technician to service, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair large-scale chiller and HVAC systems in industrial and commercial environments. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical expertise, a deep understanding of refrigeration cycles, and the ability to work independently in mission‐critical facilities.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience with centrifugal, screw, and reciprocating chillers, as well as supporting systems such as cooling towers, pumps, and controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of:
- Air‐cooled and water‐cooled chillers
- Centrifugal, screw, and reciprocating chillers
- Cooling towers, pumps, boilers, and hydronic systems
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues
- Perform preventive maintenance per manufacturer and company standards
- Inspect and service compressors, motors, valves, heat exchangers, and controls
- Conduct refrigerant recovery, leak detection, evacuation, and charging
- Interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control diagrams
- Work with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and chiller controls
- Perform start‐ups, shutdowns, and seasonal changeovers
- Ensure compliance with:
- EPA regulations
- OSHA safety standards
- Company and site safety programs
- Accurately document service activity, findings, and recommendations
- Communicate effectively with customers, engineers, and supervisors
- Participate in emergency service calls and on‐call rotations as required
Required Qualifications
- 4 years' experience servicing industrial or large commercial HVAC chiller systems
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Refrigeration cycles and heat transfer
- Electrical systems (single and three‐phase)
- Mechanical and hydronic systems
- Experience with major chiller manufacturers (e.g., Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, McQuay)
- EPA 608 Universal Certification (required)
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and schematics
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem‐solving skills
- Strong attention to safety and detail
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Factory training or certifications on chiller equipment
- Experience with high‐voltage systems
- Familiarity with vibration analysis, oil analysis, and performance testing
- Experience in data centers, manufacturing plants, hospitals, or utility environments
- Knowledge of BAS platforms (Tridium, Siemens, Johnson Controls, etc.)
Salary : $74,880 - $101,920
