Oakville Elementary Special Ed. Paraprofessional

Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Special Education Paraprofessional at Oakville Elementary. This position involves working closely with students with diverse learning needs to provide support and assistance in their educational journey. The ideal candidate will be committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment that fosters the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students.

Responsibilities

• Assist special education teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and lesson plans tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
• Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with disabilities in various settings, including classrooms, resource rooms, and during extracurricular activities.
• Monitor and document student progress, behaviors, and any changes in performance, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.
• Support students with daily living skills, including personal care, mobility, and social interactions, ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to create a cohesive support system for students with special needs.
• Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to special education practices.
• Maintain a positive and encouraging environment that promotes student engagement, independence, and self-esteem.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent & successful completion of the ETS exam or an associate degree or higher in education.
• Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning abilities.
• Ability to follow directions, adapt to changing situations, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Familiarity with special education laws, regulations, and best practices is a plus.
• Must pass background checks and any required assessments prior to employment.
