Director of Accounting

Overview
A well-established and rapidly growing national manufacturing company is seeking a Director of Accounting to oversee accounting operations across multiple entities. This role will ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and support strategic decision-making in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The position partners closely with Operations and Supply Chain leadership while driving continuous improvement across systems, processes, and reporting. This is a highly visible leadership role with responsibility for managing the close process and developing a high-performing accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close Management
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes across multiple entities
- Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules
- Ensure proper revenue recognition, inventory valuation, accruals, and cost accounting treatment
- Partner with Plant Controllers to validate production results and manufacturing cost activity
Accounting Operations
- Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and Payroll accounting functions
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Manage fixed asset accounting, leases, depreciation, and capital project tracking
- Ensure timely bank and balance sheet reconciliations
Cost Accounting & Inventory
- Support standard costing, variance analysis, and physical inventory processes
- Partner with Operations on yield, scrap, labor, and overhead absorption analysis
- Review and validate BOMs, routings, and cost rolls
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
- Support annual budgeting and periodic reforecasts
- Prepare KPI reporting, financial analysis, and variance commentary
- Provide decision-support for pricing, CAPEX, and operational initiatives
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor the AP and AR teams (6 people)
- Establish KPIs and promote a culture of accountability and performance
- Drive cross-training and succession planning
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with plant managers, operations, and logistics teams
- Participate in S&OP and CAPEX review processes
- Lead root-cause analysis and financial modeling for manufacturing performance
Key Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
- Strong GAAP knowledge and experience with consolidated financial statements
- Manufacturing or CPG experience required (food manufacturing preferred)
- Experience with cost accounting, inventory, and multi-entity environments
- ERP experience (NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, etc.) and advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Hands-on approach in a fast-paced environment
