What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prevention Specialist position at Northwest Family Services?
This position provides evidence-based prevention and early intervention services to students in the Reynolds and Gresham school districts.
Primary Responsibilities
· Work with students to reduce community, school, peer, and individual risk factors such as truancy, poor school performance, alcohol and drug use, negative student behavior, and negative peer association.
· Provide or assist with trainings such as Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA), Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention, and other trainings to youth, parents, and families.
· Participate in meetings where at-risk youth issues are discussed with school staff.
· Provide or assist with evidence-based prevention classes.
Education / Experience
· An Associate degree in a related field is preferred but not required.
· A Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) is preferred but not required.
· Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred but not required.
· Experience as a Youth Peer Support Specialist is preferred but not required.
· Experience working with youth in a school setting is preferred but not required.
