Job Description:
The North Middlesex School District is seeking a Freshman/JV2 Girls Basketball Coach to lead first-year and developing high school athletes as they transition into the varsity program. This coach will focus on teaching foundational basketball skills, building confidence, fostering teamwork, and instilling discipline and sportsmanship.
The Freshman/JV2 coach plays a critical role in preparing athletes for JV and varsity competition while promoting academic responsibility and personal growth. The coach will collaborate closely with the Head Varsity Coach, JV Coach, and assistant coaches to ensure program alignment and consistency with the North Middlesex Athletics mission and core values.
Key Responsibilities:
Player Development & Instruction
Conduct practices that emphasize basketball fundamentals: dribbling, passing, shooting, defensive positioning, footwork, and game awareness.
Provide individualized instruction to support skill development and confidence-building among developing athletes.
Teach resilience, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship through participation in practices and games.
Identify athletes with varsity potential and provide mentorship to foster their growth and readiness.
Game Preparation & Management
Prepare athletes for freshman/JV2-level competition with appropriate lineups, rotations, and strategies.
Coach athletes during games to encourage consistent effort, adherence to fundamentals, and positive behavior.
Conduct post-game evaluations to promote learning, improvement, and reflection.
Team Culture & Mentorship
Promote a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture aligned with North Middlesex Athletics’ core values.
Serve as a role model by demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and respect.
Support student-athletes’ academic achievement and personal growth while emphasizing the connection between athletics and education.
Encourage leadership, responsibility, and pride in representing North Middlesex.
Collaboration & Communication
Maintain open communication with the Head Varsity Coach, JV Coach, assistant coaches, and Athletic Director.
Coordinate with parents, teachers, and school administrators to support student-athletes’ holistic development.
Participate in program-wide meetings to ensure alignment between Freshman/JV2, JV, and Varsity programs.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure a safe environment during practices, games, and all team activities.
Adhere to all North Middlesex School District, MIAA, and NFHS safety and compliance guidelines, including concussion management and injury prevention.
Maintain required certifications, including CPR, First Aid, and Concussion in Sports Training.
Qualifications:
Required:
Experience coaching basketball at the middle or high school level, or significant playing experience at the high school or collegiate level.
Knowledge of basketball fundamentals and strategies appropriate for developing athletes.
Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes while fostering a positive team culture.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Compliance with all North Middlesex School District, MIAA, and NFHS coaching requirements.
Preferred:
Previous Freshman/JV2 or assistant high school coaching experience.
Experience preparing athletes for JV or varsity-level competition.
Background in player development, strength and conditioning, or youth mentorship.
Salary:
Per North Middlesex Regional School District Coach Stipend Schedule.
Salary : $3,777 - $4,402
