What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher position at North Middlesex Regional School District?
Definition: The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing direct instruction and support to students. The Special Education Teacher’s role is to plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons to promote growth in subject matter and skills, subject to Special Education Laws, that will contribute to their educational development.

- Follow and implement applicable special education local and state laws and regulations.
- Demonstrate skill and preparation in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
- Develop lesson plans, schemes of work, and assessments aligned with district procedures and curriculum frameworks.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver individualized, culturally responsive interventions and instructional materials that facilitate active learning in academics for students requiring Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
- Frequently track student data and conduct progress monitoring assessments to closely monitor student progress, to inform interventions and to make educational decisions.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback and evaluate student progress using data to inform and adjust teaching strategies.
- Provide and implement accommodations and modifications to curriculum materials to address students’ learning needs.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials, resources, and technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Establish and communicate clear learning objectives and prepare the classroom environment accordingly.
- Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and maintaining discipline in line with school district policies.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress, behavior, and development in compliance with legal and district requirements.
- Prepare and submit required reports on students and activities.
- Communicate regularly with students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
- Encourage and support parent and community involvement; respond promptly to parent inquiries and communication.
- Support student transitions into the program and to subsequent grade levels.
- Complete required documentation as a special education liaison, including the development of IEPs and progress reports.
- Participate in meetings with school staff, district personnel, and parents.
- Attend and contribute to ISST meetings.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities including initiative, positivity, problem-solving, and flexibility.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or Special Education Administrator.
Salary : $60,426 - $107,737
