Job Title: Middle School Head Cross Country Coach (Grades 5–8)
School: North Middlesex School District (Middle School Level – One coach per school)

Job Description:
The North Middlesex School District is seeking a Head Middle School Cross Country Coach to lead and develop the cross country program for students in grades 5–8. This coach will promote physical fitness, team values, and personal growth in a supportive and developmentally appropriate environment.
The ideal candidate is energetic, positive, and passionate about working with young student-athletes. This position emphasizes inclusivity, encouragement, and basic running fundamentals over competition.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Development:
Plan and lead practices focused on endurance, technique, pacing, and safe running habits.
Foster an inclusive, welcoming environment for athletes of all skill levels.
Organize team participation in meets and coordinate logistics with athletic department staff.
Student Growth & Engagement:
Encourage students to set and pursue personal goals in a team-oriented environment.
Emphasize confidence-building, perseverance, sportsmanship, and healthy habits.
Safety & Supervision:
Monitor proper warm-up/cool-down routines and injury prevention strategies.
Supervise all athletes during practices, meets, and travel when applicable.
Respond appropriately to student needs and maintain a safe and respectful atmosphere.
Collaboration & Communication:
Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians and school staff.
Coordinate with other coaches and the athletic director to ensure program alignment across the district.
Compliance:
Follow all North Middlesex School District, MIAA (if applicable), and school policies.
Maintain required certifications including:
Concussion Training (NFHS or CDC-approved)
First Aid & CPR Certification
CORI/SORI Background Check
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Enthusiasm for coaching and mentoring middle school students.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to foster a safe and supportive team environment.
Must meet all district coaching requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience coaching or running cross country.
Experience working with middle school-aged children.
Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate coaching strategies.
Salary:
Per NMRSD Coach Stipend Schedule.
