What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Technical Specialist, Maintenance Support position at NJ TRANSIT?
This position researches garages complaints regarding part and inventory related issues. It initiates monthly visits to all bus operation facilities to establish strong communications and to ensure all support needed at these facilities is readily available. It interacts with both Material Management and Procurement Departments regarding parts issues to insure parts availability. It communicates with suppliers to ensure NJ TRANSIT has the most up accurate information regarding both parts and superseded parts.

Roles And Responsibilities
- Edit parts manuals for new bus fleets.
- Research garage complaints regarding parts problems. Assist Central Stores and Central Maintenance Facility with parts issues.
- Initiate efforts to develop alternate suppliers for service parts to ensure parts availability and reduce operating cost.
- Develop specifications for revenue and non-revenue replacement parts and service contracts.
- Develop initial stock parts list for new bus fleets.
- Assist in the maintenance and administration of seasonal and special programs.
- Interact with Material Management and Procurement regarding parts issues to ensure part availability.
- Communicate with suppliers to ensure NJ TRANSIT has current parts information regarding parts bulletins, campaigns, and superseded parts.
- Initiate monthly visits to all bus operation facilities to establish a strong line of communication and ensures that support to these facilities as required is readily available.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field and five years of applied progressive experience. Completion of a technical training program and five years of additional applied experience may be substituted for the degree.
- Experience with vehicle maintenance and knowledge of all mechanical aspects of buses required.
- One year of closely related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Must have extensive computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with vehicle maintenance and knowledge of all mechanical aspects of buses required
- Working knowledge of Oracle & VMIS systems.
- Working knowledge of an EPC System (Electric Parts Catalog) Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Class D driver’s license within the first 90 days of employment
