Job Summary
The Patient Safety Director leads the hospital's patient safety program, driving initiatives that eliminate preventable patient harm while fostering and sustaining a culture of safety across the organization. This leader partners closely with executive and clinical teams to implement evidence-based patient safety strategies, strengthen organizational reliability, and ensure continuous improvement in patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the hospital-wide patient safety program.
- Advance a culture of safety through collaboration, education, and leadership engagement.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate patient safety risks using systems thinking and high-reliability principles.
- Design and implement reliable processes that reduce preventable patient harm.
- Partner with executive and clinical leaders to integrate patient safety into operational and strategic initiatives.
- Develop and mentor the patient safety team while building organizational expertise.
- Promote patient and family engagement in safety initiatives.
- Monitor, analyze, and report patient safety metrics to drive measurable reductions in avoidable harm.
- Support risk management and claims activities, as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational patient safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
- Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) certification, or the ability to obtain it within one year of employment and maintain certification thereafter.
- Recent healthcare experience within a clinical setting (hospital, ambulatory surgery center, or similar).
- Demonstrated experience leading Patient Safety initiatives (not solely Quality).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a healthcare-related field.
- Three to five years of progressive experience in Patient Safety, Risk Management, and/or Healthcare Quality, with a strong emphasis on patient safety.
- Clinical background preferred.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and partnering with executive leadership.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, and change management skills.
- Experience developing high-performing teams and fostering professional growth.
- Familiarity with high-reliability organizations, safety culture methodologies, and patient safety best practices.
- Previous experience with HCA systems and processes is a plus; external candidates should demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and adapt.

Salary : $125,000 - $180,000
