Summary
The M&R Commercial Print Screen Maker is responsible for preparing, coating, imaging, and reclaiming large-format printing screens for use in commercial screen-printing operations. This role requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to quality standards, and the ability to operate and maintain screen-production equipment supporting high-volume, high-quality commercial print output.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Screen Preparation & Coating
- Clean, degrease, and inspect mesh screens prior to coating.
- Apply emulsion evenly using manual or automated coating equipment.
- Ensure proper drying using controlled drying environments.
Screen Imaging & Exposure
- Operate M&R and SAKURAI large-format screen-imaging and exposure systems.
- Align and register artwork for precise print placement.
- Confirm exposure settings for proper stencil hardness and resolution.
Screen Reclaiming & Maintenance
- Remove ink, emulsion, and ghost images from used screens.
- Follow correct reclaiming procedures and chemical handling guidelines.
- Inspect, repair, or replace mesh to ensure screens are press-ready.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate all M&R and SAKURAI equipment per manufacturer specifications.
- Perform routine inspections, cleaning, and minor maintenance.
- Report equipment issues and assist with troubleshooting.
Quality Control
- Inspect screens for pinholes, defects, alignment, and registration accuracy.
- Maintain consistent stencil quality that meets production and client expectations.
- Communicate with press operators to ensure screens perform correctly on press.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures related to chemical handling, equipment, and materials.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, environmental, and company safety protocols.
- Keep workstation clean, organized, and hazard-free.
REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in large-format or commercial screen-printing screen making.
- Hands-on experience with M&R and SAKURAI (or similar) large-format screen-making equipment.
- Strong understanding of emulsions, mesh counts, exposure, and reclaiming processes.
- High attention to detail and quality control.
- Ability to lift and maneuver screens up to 75 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Familiarity with fast-paced print production workflows.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment adjustments and minor repairs.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a production team.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Regularly requires the use of hands, arms, hearing, and speaking.
- Occasionally requires standing and walking.
- Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
