Finishing Operator

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Finishing Operator to support our commercial print production operations. This role is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient setup and operation of guillotine paper cutters and flatbed die-cutting equipment. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in print finishing, a strong understanding of materials and cutting specifications, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain guillotine paper cutters to trim printed sheets and raw stock to precise dimensions
- Read and interpret job tickets, layouts, cut lists, and specifications to ensure accuracy and quality
- Program digital cutter control systems to achieve exact cuts
- Verify first cuts using measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, rulers) and make necessary adjustments
- Cut a variety of materials, including coated and uncoated paper, cover stock, label stock, and specialty substrates
- Perform proper jogging, stacking, and waste removal to support downstream production processes
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper blade handling and use of mechanical guards
- Work closely with Maintenance to support routine maintenance and minor equipment repairs
- Collaborate with pressroom, bindery, and grand-format teams to meet production deadlines
- Maintain accurate production logs and documentation
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
Required Skills & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of experience operating commercial guillotine paper cutters
- Experience with cutter brands such as Polar, Wohlenberg, Challenge, or similar
- Preferred experience operating flatbed die-cutters including Bobst (40”), Thomson (53”), Cahue (79”), Rollem (30”), or Kluge (19”)
- Strong math skills and ability to read job dockets and layouts
- Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment setup and adjustments
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or varying shifts as needed
- Experience in commercial printing, finishing, packaging, or manufacturing environments
- Knowledge of paper grain direction, weights, and material characteristics
- Familiarity with cutting software systems (Polar or similar)
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities

- Regular use of hands for handling materials and operating machinery
- Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods
- Occasional sitting, walking, and reaching
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds
