Position Overview
The Purchasing Manager will take ownership of all procurement and supply chain functions, ensuring materials and services are acquired efficiently, cost-effectively, and in alignment with project timelines. This leadership role requires someone who can think strategically while staying connected to day-to-day operations across multiple concurrent projects.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and execute procurement strategies for electrical construction projects ranging from industrial facilities to utility infrastructure
- Source specialty electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, substation components, cable systems) and construction services
- Negotiate favorable pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers and subcontractors
- Collaborate with estimating teams during the bid phase to secure competitive vendor quotes
- Work closely with project managers to prevent material delays and support schedule adherence
- Evaluate and qualify vendors based on cost, quality, reliability, and delivery performance
- Implement inventory management practices and coordinate logistics to multiple sites
- Track commodity pricing trends and identify value engineering opportunities
- Maintain procurement records and ensure compliance with contractual requirements
Required Qualifications
- 5-10 years of purchasing experience in construction, with strong preference for electrical or infrastructure work
- Deep understanding of electrical construction materials and equipment
- Demonstrated success in vendor negotiation and relationship management
- Proficiency with construction ERP systems and procurement software
- Ability to interpret construction documents, blueprints, and specifications
- Strong analytical skills with attention to cost control and budget management
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
Ideal Candidate Has
- Background in utility construction, substations, or transmission/distribution work
- Experience working in union environments
- Established supplier relationships in the Mid-Atlantic region
