What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Tax position at MOHR Talent?
Director of Tax Services
Remote | Competitive salary Substantial bonus
About the Opportunity
We’re partnering with a nationally respected, planning-driven wealth management firm seeking a senior tax leader to step into a highly visible Director of Tax Services role.
This is a strategic leadership seat — not a traditional compliance grind. You’ll be the firm’s senior tax authority, working directly with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients while collaborating closely with wealth advisors and the Head of Estate, Tax & Financial Planning.
If you’re currently in public accounting and feel capped by firm structure, partner bottlenecks, or endless compliance cycles — this is your opportunity to pivot into a more strategic, advisory-forward environment without sacrificing compensation.
You’ll influence firm-wide tax strategy, sit in on sophisticated planning conversations, and help shape how tax integrates with investment and estate planning initiatives.
They are motivated to hire quickly.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the firm’s overall tax strategy across planning and compliance oversight
- Review complex individual, trust, estate, and business tax returns (outsourced model)
- Provide proactive tax planning for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients
- Advise on partnership taxation, S-corporation matters, and pass-through optimization
- Support business exit and liquidity planning (structuring, valuation coordination, tax deferral strategies)
- Partner with advisors on advanced estate, gift, and philanthropic planning strategies
- Participate in client and prospect meetings as the firm’s senior tax expert
- Oversee relationships with external tax compliance firms
- Improve workflows, systems, and technology related to tax operations
- Stay ahead of legislative changes and communicate impact across the firm
- Mentor and help develop junior tax professionals
- 14 years of tax experience within public accounting
- CPA license preferred
- Deep experience with income, estate, gift, and business taxation
- Strong return review background across individual, trust, and closely held entities
- Experience working with high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth clients
- Ability to clearly explain complex tax concepts to non-technical clients
- Outgoing, confident presence — comfortable in client-facing settings
- Strong project management and prioritization skills
Why This Role Is Different
- Fully remote leadership role
- Strategic advisory focus — less transactional compliance
- Direct access to firm leadership
- Opportunity to influence firm-wide tax direction
- Growth runway if the firm builds an internal tax platform
