What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Consultant position at MJH Consulting?
Product Consultant (Contract) - MJH Consulting
Company Description
MJH Consulting helps product teams build with clarity by providing strategic advisory services grounded in nearly a decade of enterprise product experience. The firm partners with organizations to refine product vision, align stakeholders, and translate complex business needs into actionable product offerings. MJH Consulting focuses on practical, outcome-driven guidance that supports product leaders and teams at various stages of growth. Prospective team members join a consultancy that values thoughtful analysis, clear communication, and measurable impact on product performance.
Role Description
The Product Consultant will work closely with client product teams to assess current product strategies, identify gaps, and recommend improvements that drive business outcomes. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting discovery sessions, analyzing product performance data, facilitating stakeholder workshops, and shaping product roadmaps and requirements. The role also involves preparing clear documentation, presenting findings and recommendations, and supporting clients in implementing best practices in product management and customer experience. This is a contract role with flexible engagement based on client needs, and it is fully remote, requiring effective collaboration through digital tools and virtual meetings.
Consultants join MJH's delivery bench: engagements typically take the form of 2-4 week strategy sprints, 8-12 week transformation programs, and monthly executive retainers, with activated utilization of roughly 10-20 hours per week per engagement.

• 5-7 years of relevant work experience in product management, product leadership, or strategy consulting is necessary.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret product metrics, market data, and user feedback.

• Experience working with cross-functional teams (e.g., engineering, design, marketing) in a product-led environment.
• Comfort with remote collaboration tools and ability to manage multiple client engagements independently.
• Comfort presenting findings and recommendations directly to senior stakeholders, including VP and C-level audiences.
• Background in technology, SaaS, or enterprise products is highly beneficial.
• Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. A master's degree is preferred but is not a heavy requirement.
How This Engagement Works (Please Read Before Applying)
MJH Consulting is an early-stage boutique firm, and this is a 1099 contract role on the firm's delivery bench. Consultants are onboarded now and engaged as client work closes; there is no salary or retainer component. Compensation is a meaningful share of each engagement's revenue, split across the team that delivers it, with an additional bonus on any client a consultant brings in directly. Exact terms are documented in the subcontractor agreement and are reviewed together on the first call. This structure fits experienced independents who want senior client work with genuine upside alongside their own practice; it is not a fit for candidates who need guaranteed monthly income at this time.
Hiring Process
An introductory call with the founder, followed by a behavioral & technical conversation, then agreement, NDA, and security onboarding through the MJH portal. Onboarding to the bench is completed before the first client engagement.
