Position Overview
A well-regarded and expanding heavy civil construction firm is looking for a skilled Utility Superintendent to oversee underground utility teams working on water, sewer, and storm drainage projects. The successful candidate will schedule daily activities, supervise field staff, ensure adherence to safety regulations, and guarantee that high-quality utility installations are completed on time and within budget.
This is a crucial leadership role for an individual possessing in-depth knowledge of underground utilities, exceptional communication abilities, and the capability to effectively manage teams in a demanding field setting.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise teams installing water, sewer, storm drain, gravity pipe, and related utility systems.
Schedule manpower, equipment, and materials on a daily and weekly basis to ensure efficient field operations.
Enforce OSHA standards, trench safety protocols, shoring requirements, and confined space procedures to maintain a safe jobsite.
Mentor and train foremen, operators, and laborers to improve team performance and contribute to their professional growth.
Interpret civil construction drawings, blueprints, and project specifications to ensure accurate execution.
Maintain open communication with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and utility representatives.
Monitor production rates, track materials usage, and support cost control and scheduling efforts.
Address issues related to existing utilities, site conditions, or unforeseen field changes to minimize project disruptions.
Verify that work adheres to quality standards and complies with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Promote a positive and safe work environment across all job sites.
Qualifications
Required
5 years of experience in a supervisory role within underground utility construction.
Comprehensive knowledge of trenching, shoring, compaction, and utility installation techniques.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting civil plans, drawings, and specifications.
Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team management skills.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Preferred
OSHA 10-Hour Certification
Stormwater Supervisor Level II Certification
Trenching & Confined Space Certification
Lane Closure Certification
Familiarity with cost tracking and productivity reporting
