Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Utility Pipe Superintendent to lead underground utility installation crews on heavy civil construction projects. This role is responsible for planning daily field operations, directing crews, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring high-quality installation of water, sewer, storm drainage, and related utility systems. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of underground utility work, and the ability to communicate effectively with project teams, inspectors, and subcontractors.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & Field SupervisionLead, supervise, and support crews installing water, sewer, storm drain, and other underground utility systems.Plan, coordinate, and schedule daily/weekly manpower, materials, and equipment.Perform site layout, grade checks, and oversee pipe installation to ensure correct alignment, bedding, and backfill.Monitor crew performance and productivity to maintain project timelines and budgets.Resolve on-site challenges, including conflicts with existing utilities and unforeseen field conditions.Safety & ComplianceEnforce all safety procedures including OSHA, trench safety, confined space, and company safety policies.Conduct and participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and daily job hazard assessments.Ensure all trenching, shoring, and excavation work meets regulatory requirements.Coordination & CommunicationCommunicate effectively with project managers, engineers, inspectors, utility companies, and subcontractors.Ensure accurate documentation including daily reports, timecards, material logs, and progress updates.Assist with scheduling inspections and coordinating testing for utility installations.Quality ControlEnsure all installation work meets plans, specifications, and industry standards.Verify pipe bedding, compaction, and installation procedures comply with project requirements.Maintain a clean and organized job site and promote high workmanship standards.QualificationsRequired5 years of experience supervising underground utility crews in heavy civil construction.Strong knowledge of water, sewer, storm drain installation, trenching, shoring, and compaction.Ability to read and interpret civil plans, blueprints, and specifications.Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.Valid driver’s license.PreferredOSHA 10-Hour CertificationTrenching & Confined Space CertificationStormwater Supervisor Level II CertificationLane Closure / Traffic Control CertificationExperience with GPS or laser grade-control systems a plusWhat We OfferCompetitive pay performance-based bonus opportunitiesStrong benefits package (medical, dental, vision, life insurance)401(k) with company matchPaid holidays and PTOCompany vehicle or vehicle allowance (if applicable)Opportunities for advancement within a growing civil construction team
