Position Overview
Xcel Energy is seeking a Project Coordinator (Engineering) to support Electric Distribution Operations in the NSPW region (Wisconsin and parts of Michigan).
This role provides operational and scheduling support to senior work coordinators and field crews, helping ensure construction and maintenance activities are executed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with 1–3 years of coordination, dispatch, construction, or utility experience who are looking to gain exposure within the energy industry.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and adjust daily work schedules across multiple crews based on priorities and resource availability
Assign crews, equipment, and materials to support planned and emergent work
Review and prepare construction work packets prior to assignment
Coordinate job readiness activities, including site checks and material verification
Manage real-time scheduling changes due to field conditions or work rejections
Communicate schedule updates to supervisors, crews, internal teams, and external customers
Support system updates and maintain visibility into work management queues
Assist in documentation, reporting, and data validation
Ensure alignment with safety standards, regulatory compliance, and operational best practices
What a Typical Day Looks Like
Communicating with customers regarding construction schedules or delays
Updating scheduling systems and work management tools
Supporting senior coordinators with lower-complexity coordination tasks
Preparing locate tickets and construction documentation
Collaborating with internal teams and external service providers
Adjusting schedules in response to real-time field updates
Qualifications
Required:
1–3 years of experience in coordination, dispatching, project support, construction, or utility operations
Strong customer service and communication skills
Scheduling or work coordination experience
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
Utility or electric distribution experience
SAP or other work management systems experience (MWM a plus)
Construction or field operations exposure
Business, engineering, or construction management education
Work Environment
Primarily office-based at the Eau Claire Service Center
Collaborative, team-oriented environment
Works closely with 4 senior work coordinators and operations leadership
Fully onsite initially; potential hybrid flexibility based on performance and business need
Training & Ramp-Up
First 2 weeks: systems training and orientation
Month 1: foundational productivity
Month 2: 25–50% proficiency
Month 3: full productivity expected
