Job Title: Financial Analyst (Project Portfolio Support)

Position Summary
The Financial Analyst supports a portfolio of projects within Xcel Energy’s Technology Services organization. This role acts as a key liaison between project teams and multiple accounting functions, including capital asset accounting, business area finance, and corporate accounting.
The analyst is responsible for financial tracking, accruals, reporting, and ensuring compliance within a regulated environment. This is a highly collaborative role that partners closely with Project Managers (PMs), Portfolio Coordinators, and finance teams to support accurate financial management of ongoing projects.
Key Responsibilities
Perform financial analysis across a portfolio of capital and technology projects
Manage accrual-based accounting and support month-end close activities
Pull and reconcile actuals vs. forecasts for project financials
Prepare and validate “as-built” financials for completed project work
Partner with Project Managers to provide financial insights and support decision-making
Act as liaison between project teams and accounting groups (capital, corporate, business finance)
Ensure compliance with financial controls and regulatory requirements
Support financial tracking related to software and hardware project spend
Assist with reporting, documentation, and financial data validation
Manage multiple priorities across a high-volume project portfolio
Typical Work Environment
Supports a team of approximately 10 Portfolio Coordinators
Works closely with Project Managers, Controllers, and Corporate Accounting teams
Internal-facing role with a highly collaborative team culture
Office-based environment (no field work or safety risks)
Required Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, or project finance
Strong understanding of accrual accounting and month-end processes
Experience working in a regulated industry (e.g., utilities, banking, government)
Proficiency in:
SAP
Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP)
SharePoint
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines across a portfolio
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting project-based financials or capital projects
Familiarity with tools such as ServiceNow or PowerPlan
Background in technology or IT financial support environments
Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent experience)
