Adjunct Professor, Respiratory Care Program

Description: The Respiratory Care Program at Long Island University provides quality education that is student-oriented, accessible to a diverse student population, and based on the healthcare needs of our community. All programs are regionally accredited by Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). In addition to regional accreditation, the Respiratory Care program is accredited nationally by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

The School of Health Professions is seeking a six (6) month Adjunct Professor, Respiratory Care program member to provide didactic, lab and clinical instruction beginning Fall 2025. Adjunct professors have a primary six (6) month contract based on teaching 3 credit hours per semester.

Reports to: Director, Division of Respiratory Care.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Deliver instruction in didactic, lab and clinical settings to promote student success.
  • Participate in planning, organizing and developing curriculum for the Respiratory Care program.
  • Supervise, evaluate and mentor students in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings.
  • Appropriately document student progress in laboratory and clinical sessions.
  • Create coursework aligned with department and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in departmental and team meetings.
  • Strictly honor the privacy, security and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to student success and excellence in undergraduate education.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care with Master’s Degree or higher in respiratory care, science, business or education. Professional licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) as required by the State of New York. Four (4) years’ work experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist is required with at least two (2) years’ in clinical respiratory care. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, relevant teaching experience, and the ability to incorporate instructional technologies in the classroom are required.

Additional Requirements

Documentation of immunizations and health screening are required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required within 3 months of hire. A criminal background check and drug screening will be conducted.

  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office, Blackboard Learning Management System, and/or relevant position software programs.
  • Multicultural -ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment.
