Job Description

LIU Brooklyn seeks a dynamic, student-centered leader to serve as the Associate Dean of Students for Student Affairs. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs & Executive Dean of Students, the Associate Dean plays critical role in enhancing the student experience by providing vision, leadership, and strategic direction for student services and programs that promote student success, engagement, and well-being. This role supports a diverse student population through advocacy, resource development, crisis management, and program implementation, in alignment with the University’s mission and goals.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for various Student Affairs units, including student conduct, academic advisement, student engagement, residence life/housing operations, financial success, and career engagement.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of professional staff members, including establishing goals and fostering.professional development opportunities, monitor goals for the team, and meet recruitment and retention goals.
  • Assist in planning and executing campus-wide initiatives such as new student orientation, homecoming, commencement, and other university events.
  • Contribute to assessment and evaluation efforts to continuously improve programs and services.
  • Oversee student conduct processes, ensuring adherence to university policies, fairness, and support for student learning and accountability.
  • Manage and coordinate student crisis response, collaborating with campus safety, counseling services, and other departments to support student well-being.
  • Serve in an on-call capacity, providing oversight and support to the first and second level on-call administrators.
  • Coordinate with counterpart(s) on other campuses to ensure a streamlined and uniform LIU student experience.
  • Facilitate, participate, and oversee training/development programs for professional staff.
  • Participate in strategic planning and budgeting for the Student Affairs division.
  • Represent the Division of Student Affairs at LIU Brooklyn.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs or higher education administration.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to supervise, mentor, and motivate a diverse team.
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis response, student conduct, or wellness programming.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in student affairs and student development theory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a similarly diverse, urban higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with Title IX, FERPA, and other student-focused compliance areas.
  • Experience using student success and conduct management systems.
