Trust & Estate Planning Paralegal
Location: Irvine, CA (Fully Onsite)
Compensation: $90,000–$110,000 annually, DOE
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (12:00–1:00 p.m. lunch)
Work Week: 37.5 hours
About the Opportunity
Our mid-sized law firm is seeking an experienced Trust & Estate Planning Paralegal to join our Estate Planning Department in our Irvine office. This is a fully onsite position supporting attorneys with sophisticated estate planning matters, trust administration, and transfer tax filings. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced handling complex estate planning documents and federal gift and estate tax returns.
Responsibilities
- Draft estate planning documents, including revocable and irrevocable trusts, wills, powers of attorney, advance healthcare directives, and related ancillary documents.
- Prepare trust funding documents, deeds, assignments, and beneficiary designation forms.
- Assist attorneys with trust administration matters from initial intake through distribution.
- Prepare and coordinate federal estate tax returns (Form 706) and federal gift tax returns (Form 709).
- Gather financial information and communicate with clients, financial institutions, accountants, and advisors.
- Maintain estate planning files and manage document organization.
- Coordinate document signings and oversee execution formalities.
- Track deadlines and maintain attorney calendars for estate planning and administration matters.
- Perform legal research related to trusts and estates as needed.
- Ensure accuracy and confidentiality while managing multiple matters simultaneously.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of trust and estate planning paralegal experience in a law firm.
- Demonstrated experience preparing IRS Form 706 (Estate Tax Returns) and IRS Form 709 (Gift Tax Returns) is required.
- Strong knowledge of trust administration and estate planning procedures.
- Experience drafting sophisticated estate planning documents.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal document management systems.
- California notary public commission is a plus.
Billable Expectations
- Monthly billable target of 100 billable hours.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary of $90,000–$110,000, depending on experience.
- 37.5-hour work week.
- Monday through Friday schedule, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- One-hour lunch break (12:00–1:00 p.m.).
