Summary
The Production Scheduler is responsible for developing and maintaining the master production plan to meet customer demand while minimizing effective inventory. This role provides daily, weekly, and monthly schedules aligned with plant capacity, sales forecasts, and operational constraints. The position determines optimal inventory and safety stock levels, identifies required production outputs, and works cross-functionally to ensure efficient changeovers and on-time delivery. The Production Scheduler also monitors raw material availability, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and serves as the primary contact for production schedule information.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the master production plan to meet customer demand while minimizing inventory levels
- Provide daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules aligned with plant capacity and sales forecasts
- Determine desired finished goods inventory levels, including safety stock
- Create a rolling three-month production plan based on forecasted demand and internal constraints
- Collaborate with Operations, Sales, Customer Service, Opex, and leadership to achieve business objectives
- Optimize run quantities and minimize changeovers to support 100% on-time delivery
- Identify capacity constraints and communicate them to Manufacturing, Production, Engineering, and Maintenance
- Ensure data accuracy within the scheduling system to support organizational goals
- Track and report key performance indicators on a monthly basis
- Monitor raw material levels to support uninterrupted production
- Serve as the primary point of contact for production schedule information and shipping date support
- Order raw materials in alignment with production requirements
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and cross-functional projects to enhance efficiency and customer service
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR advanced degree and at least 2 years of experience
- Without a degree, 5–6 years of relevant experience required
- Minimum 3 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or inventory planning, preferably in manufacturing
- APICS/CPIM certification highly preferred
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to convert data into actionable plans
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working with cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and change-driven mindset
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
- Experience with production planning software and ERP systems
- Leadership behaviors that promote collaboration and high performance
- Background in metals manufacturing and high-mix production environments preferred
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles
- Ability to influence, support, and guide team members in a fast-paced environment
Compensation
- Base salary range: $80,000 – $120,000 per year
- Annual discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance
- Bonus eligibility and amounts are determined by company and/or individual performance
- No additional forms of compensation (e.g., equity, stock, profit sharing)
- Salary range is consistent across all locations
