Role Overview — Manager of Legal Recruiting
The Manager of Legal Recruiting plays a critical part in driving the firm’s attorney hiring pipeline nationwide. This role works closely with the firm’s Chief Recruiting Officer, Director of Attorney Recruiting, and Practice Group Leadership to strategically support growth across offices.
This position can be based in Chicago or Kansas City.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle attorney recruiting process under the direction of key leadership stakeholders.
- Oversee lateral associate and shareholder candidate pipelines, including tracking, documentation, and communication flow.
- Maintain accuracy in the applicant tracking system (ViDesktop) and internal reporting tools.
- Prepare candidate materials, including bios, background summaries, and deal books when applicable.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for candidate interviews, scheduling, coordination, and communication with:
- Candidates
- Search firms
- Attorneys and hiring partners
- Internal talent and administrative teams
- Prepare lateral questionnaire summaries, offer approval documentation, and hiring memos.
- Coordinate with the firm’s conflicts and due‑diligence teams to ensure timely candidate clearance.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with external legal search firms.
- Contribute to recruiting strategy development at the attorney, practice group, and office levels.
- Participate in special projects and department initiatives as needed.
- Leverage Microsoft Office Suite and learn additional platforms required for talent operations.
Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 5–8 years of legal recruiting experience, ideally in a large law firm environment.
- Strong proficiency in:
- Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
- Legal recruiting technologies (e.g., ViDesktop, applicant tracking systems)
- Work in fast‑paced, high‑volume environments
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational capability and attention to detail.
- Professional, service‑oriented approach with the ability to interface confidently with attorneys, candidates, and external partners.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines with a high degree of independence and confidentiality.
- Discretion, sound judgment, and flexibility are essential.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Comfortable working under pressure with shifting priorities.
- Some travel may be required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Anticipated salary range: $150,000–$185,000, with flexibility for highly qualified candidates.
