What are the responsibilities and job description for the Defeasance Paralegal position at LHH?
LHH is looking for a Defeasance Paralegal for a law firm in Kansas City. It is a hybrid role (after 90 days) and the salary range is $95,000 - $110,000.
Core Responsibilities
Review loan and engagement documents and prepare internal summaries, checklists, and client communications
Organize and maintain electronic deal folders for attorney access
Draft and organize outgoing emails for attorney review
Prepare first drafts of defeasance documents using HotDocs Author
Review title commitments and assist with drafting/reviewing mortgage releases, UCC terminations, and closing instruction letters
Provide draft documentation to title companies and communicate regarding questions or issues
Conduct preliminary review of borrower due diligence items (accounting reports, organizational documents, opinions)
Review client case memoranda to expedite attorney review
Requirements
- Track closing deliverables and update checklists in Project Fortress
- Review signature packets and track outstanding items
- Develop proficiency in Project Fortress, including use of AI features
- Finalize defeasance documents and assist with closing processes
- Draft and file defeasance UCCs post-closing
- Assemble and review final closing documents and binders
- Improve HotDocs coding for efficiency and evolving issues
- Serve as liaison between Project Fortress and the Defeasance team; assist in team training
- Help train staff, standardize processes, and update forms/memos
- Support attorneys and team members as needed
Computer Applications Used:
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Kofax
- iManage
- Project Fortress
- HotDocs
- Paralegal Certificate or related degree preferred
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Billable requirement: 1600 hours/year
- Schedule:
- First 3 months: fully in-office
- After 3 months: hybrid (2 days remote / 3 days in-office)
- Start time: 8:30 a.m. or 9:00 a.m.
- Mon–Thu: 7.75-hour days; Fri: 7.5 hours; overtime as needed
