Insurance Defense Attorney - Medical Malpractice
Full-Time W-2 Contract-to-Hire or Direct Hire
Fully Onsite | Altamonte Springs / Orlando, FL
$60-$75 per hour (roughly $124,800 to $156,000 annually) DOE
LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a well-established and highly respected Florida law firm to identify an Insurance Defense Attorney to support a growing medical malpractice and insurance defense practice. This is a full-time W-2 contract-to-hire opportunity with direct-hire consideration for the right candidate, offering exposure to complex, high-value litigation in a collaborative and supportive environment.
This role is ideal for a junior-level attorney seeking extensive hands-on litigation experience, strong mentorship, and long-term growth within a reputable defense practice. This position is fully onsite in the Altamonte Springs/Orlando area. The attorney will manage a caseload of insurance defense matters from inception through resolution. While prior medical malpractice experience is a strong plus, it is not required.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage civil defense matters in Florida state and federal courts from intake and notice of intent through resolution
- Draft and argue pleadings, motions, and dispositive motions
- Handle all aspects of discovery, including taking and defending depositions
- Attend mediations, hearings, and trials, supporting senior partners or handling matters independently
- Review and analyze medical records and expert reports to develop a litigation strategy
- Conduct legal research and prepare case evaluations, budgets, and status reports for insurance carriers and clients
- Ensure compliance with Florida court rules, procedures, and deadlines
- Maintain accurate and timely billing in accordance with firm and client guidelines
Minimum Qualifications
- JD from an accredited law school
- Active member of The Florida Bar in good standing
- 1 year of recent Florida law firm experience in insurance defense, medical malpractice defense, or related civil defense litigation
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills with close attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build rapport with colleagues, clients, opposing counsel, experts, and court personnel
- Familiarity with Florida and Federal e-filing systems and time-entry billing platforms
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management systems
- Ability to manage deadlines and caseloads in a fast-paced litigation environment
Compensation and Structure
- $60-$75 per hour (roughly $124,800 to $156,000 annually) DOE
- Full-time W-2 contract-to-hire position
- Direct hire consideration based on performance
- Fully onsite role in the Altamonte Springs / Orlando area
WIFM? This role offers long-term stability, meaningful litigation experience, and growth potential in a respected Florida defense practice. Preference is for a W2 contract-to-hire candidate, but direct-hire only candidates with 1 years of tenured civil defense litigation experience will be considered.
