A global law firm headquartered in Washington DC is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the team in a role that will support the firm’s financial integrity through hands-on accounting execution, analytical review, and structured reporting within a sophisticated professional services environment. Key Responsibilities
- Perform core month-end and periodic close activities, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
- Maintain accuracy across general ledger accounts covering operating expenses, accruals, prepaid items, fixed assets, cash activity, and revenue-related balances
- Review financial activity to identify variances, anomalies, or trends, and investigate issues through detailed analysis
- Assemble internal financial reports and analyses used by finance leadership and firm management
- Evaluate accounts payable transactions to confirm appropriate classification, approvals, and internal policy adherence
- Support financial planning processes by assisting with budget support, forecast analysis, and variance explanations
- Prepare schedules and documentation for internal reviews, external audits, and compliance-related reporting
- Respond to auditor and reviewer requests with clear explanations and well-organized support
- Identify areas where accounting processes, controls, or workflows can be strengthened or made more efficient
- Contribute to special projects and ongoing improvements within the finance and accounting team
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- CPA license or active progress toward CPA completion is required
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior experience in public accounting strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and the ability to apply accounting standards in a practical, business-oriented setting
- Proficiency in Excel and experience working with accounting systems and detailed financial reports
- High level of professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive financial information
