The Larimer County Fairgrounds is seeking a Program Coordinator to join our team at The Ranch Events Complex.
The Competitions Department plays a key role in supporting the Larimer County Fair, 4-H, and agricultural programming. This position will help coordinate fair competitions, manage volunteers, and oversee a large Open Class program. The team works closely with youth, families, volunteers, CSU Extension, and community partners to deliver high-quality competitions, educational opportunities, and livestock events that promote agriculture and support youth development. This role is also responsible for ensuring a well-organized and positive experience for all participants.
The schedule for this position is flexible and managed by the employee, with some required evening meetings. Workload varies throughout the year—hours may be lighter (less than 40 hours per week) during slower periods, but will increase to a full-time schedule as the Fair approaches, including during animal check-ins and key deadlines.
Coordinate and oversee all fair competitions, including livestock, open class, and general project programs. And be present for all Fair Board meetings. Develop and manage the Fair Book, ensuring rules, classes, and policies are accurate and clearly communicated. Administer the fair entry system and database, including setup, processing entries, and generating reports. Recruit, contract, and coordinate judges, including scheduling and ensuring fair evaluation processes. Manage competition logistics and awards, including purchasing ribbons, trophies, and ensuring accurate results and premium payouts. Supervise and lead seasonal staff, interns, and volunteers, including hiring support, training, and scheduling.
Knowledge of fair operations and agricultural programs, including livestock shows, 4-H, and FFA competitions. Understanding of competition rules, judging processes, and exhibitor requirements within a fair setting. Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple timelines and complex programs simultaneously. Proficiency in database and entry systems, with attention to detail and accuracy in reporting results and records. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively work with exhibitors, judges, volunteers, and stakeholders. Leadership and supervisory skills, with experience managing seasonal staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Three (3) years experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties.
- Possess reliable transportation to be able to work in any County facility as needed and required.
