The Company
A privately held, high-growth organization in the entertainment and e-commerce space. The business has evolved from a 20-year passion project into a fast-growing enterprise with multiple revenue streams, including online retail, product development, and looking to grow into subscription-based offerings. With over 500 SKUs managed across leading e-commerce platforms, the company is entering a pivotal stage of formalizing operations and scaling into a professionalized, growth-oriented business.
The Opportunity
The Controller will be the company’s first dedicated finance leader, tasked with building and professionalizing the finance and accounting function from the ground up. Reporting directly to senior leadership, this role will be highly hands-on initially—responsible for establishing processes, implementing systems, and ensuring compliance across tax, payroll, and regulatory requirements.
Over time, the Controller will have the opportunity to build and lead a team, serve as a strategic business partner to leadership, and play a critical role in supporting the company’s expansion.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Management
- Establish and manage core accounting processes (GL, AP/AR, reconciliations).
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes.
- Implement and oversee tax compliance, payroll, and regulatory filings.
- Introduce internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Partner with leadership to evaluate and implement an ERP/financial system (NetSuite preferred).
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Develop reporting and dashboards to provide insights into sales, margins, and operational performance.
- Build financial models to support business planning, inventory management, and growth initiatives.
- Track and analyze e-commerce and warehouse sales performance across multiple platforms.
Operational Partnership
- Partner with HR and operations on payroll, benefits, and organizational processes.
- Support vendor and inventory management, integrating financial processes with e-commerce platforms.
- Provide financial insights to support new product launches and subscription offerings.
Future Growth & Leadership
- Design scalable finance processes to support long-term growth.
- Recruit and lead a finance team as the company grows.
- Serve as a key business partner, helping professionalize the business while maintaining entrepreneurial agility.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or MBA preferred.
- 7–12 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally with high-growth or founder-led businesses.
- Experience with inventory management, e-commerce, or product-based businesses strongly preferred.
- ERP/financial system implementation experience (NetSuite a plus).
- Demonstrated success operating in entrepreneurial, fast-changing environments where processes are being built.
- Adaptable, collaborative, and hands-on with strong problem-solving skills.
- Personally aligned with entrepreneurial culture; an interest in gaming/entertainment is a plus.
- High integrity and sound judgment, balancing entrepreneurial flexibility with compliance rigor.
Salary : $100,000 - $140,000
