Position Summary
The Vessel Agent position at John S. Connor will serve as the project manager for vessel port calls under the direction and supervision of the Vessel Agency Branch Manager. The role is responsible for ensuring vessels are efficiently and compliantly managed throughout their turnaround at U.S. East Coast ports.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit documentation required by U.S. government agencies, including U.S. Customs & Border Protection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Coast Guard
- Enter and clear vessels through U.S. Customs & Border Protection
- Prepare and distribute cargo documents related to vessel cargo operations
- Coordinate and communicate vessel arrival and departure schedules with pilots, tugs, line handlers, stevedores, and terminals
- Coordinate various vessel services requested by owners or captains, with approval from the Agency Department Manager
- Manage vessel operations during after-hours, weekends, and holidays as required
Requirements
Education
- College degree preferred, but not required
Experience
- Prior experience in vessel operations, port agency, or maritime logistics preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Reliable transportation and a good driving record required
- Availability to work 24 hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and time-sensitive operations effectively
