Account Manager - Construction Supply Sales

Overview

A well-established construction supply and equipment company is seeking a motivated and results-driven Account Manager to join its outside sales team in the Greater Chicagoland area.

This is a territory-based outside sales role focused on developing new business while growing and servicing existing customer accounts. The company provides construction professionals with materials, tools, supplies, equipment rentals, technical support, and responsive service.

The ideal candidate is relationship-driven, proactive, and comfortable spending their time in the field building relationships with contractors and construction professionals.

The Role

The Account Manager will independently manage an assigned sales territory, identifying new business opportunities while maintaining strong relationships with existing customers.

This is not an office-based position. While the role is aligned with the company’s Addison, Illinois location, the Account Manager does not need to report to the office regularly. The majority of the role will be spent in the territory visiting customers, construction sites, suppliers, and industry events.

Success in this position means developing a strong pipeline of new business, growing existing accounts, providing excellent customer service, and becoming a trusted resource for customers' construction supply and equipment needs.

Responsibilities

• Develop new business by prospecting and building relationships with contractors and construction professionals.
• Manage and grow existing customer accounts through regular communication, field visits, and responsive service.
• Travel throughout the assigned territory to meet with customers, solicit orders, gather feedback, and identify new sales opportunities.
• Generate leads through referrals, industry contacts, trade shows, supplier events, and other business development activities.
• Prepare customer quotations, communicate pricing and credit terms, and support sales contracts and order processing.
• Promote construction materials, tools, supplies, light equipment, and forming equipment rentals.
• Work with vendors and manufacturers to provide customers with appropriate products and technical solutions.
• Investigate and resolve customer concerns while maintaining strong long-term relationships.
• Collaborate with inside sales and branch teams to coordinate customer needs, account activity, inventory, and product availability.
• Coordinate customer training and conduct jobsite demonstrations for equipment and construction supplies as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or 1–2 years of relevant sales, construction supply, equipment, or related experience/training.
• Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
• Comfortable with outside sales, prospecting, and new business development.
• Ability to independently manage an assigned sales territory and customer portfolio.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Comfortable regularly visiting construction sites and working around active construction environments.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements associated with construction supply and equipment sales.

Nice to Have

• Previous experience in construction supply, building materials, equipment rental, or construction-related outside sales.
• Bilingual English/Spanish capabilities.
• Existing relationships within the Chicagoland construction or contractor market.
• Knowledge of construction management software.

Salary

Competitive base salary monthly commission.

Addison, Illinois / Greater Chicagoland Territory

This is an outside sales / territory-based position. Regular attendance at the office is not required. The Account Manager will primarily work throughout their assigned territory, visiting customers, construction sites, suppliers, and industry events.
