Overview
ISS is seeking a Construction Safety Manager / Owner’s Representative to support multiple data center construction projects in the San Francisco Bay Area.
This role will serve as the site-level safety representative on behalf of the owner, working closely with General Contractors to ensure safety management systems are properly implemented and adhered to across multiple active projects.
The position will primarily support a building project and adjacent substation project in Gilroy, with supplemental oversight of a multi-level data center project in Hayward.
This is a high-visibility leadership role requiring strong communication, organization, and the ability to operate independently in a complex, multi-GC environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Owner’s Safety Representative across multiple construction sites
- Monitor and evaluate GC implementation of safety management systems and standards
- Conduct daily site observations, inspections, and safety assessments
- Measure contractor compliance with owner safety expectations and regulatory requirements
- Provide detailed reporting, documentation, and communication to stakeholders
- Support coordination between multiple GCs operating within shared access/logistics environments
- Identify safety risks and drive corrective actions through influence and collaboration
- Attend and lead safety meetings, site walks, and coordinate discussions
- Maintain strong field presence and visibility across project sites
- Provide oversight for both vertical construction and electrical/substation work
Project Details
- Primary Site – Gilroy, CA
- Active building construction project
- Substation construction beginning April 2026
- Shared access between GCs requires strong coordination and problem-solving
- Secondary Site – Hayward, CA
- Active multi-level data center (near completion)
- Periodic/as-needed safety coverage (~1.2 hours from Gilroy)
Start Timeline: Target May 2026 (includes 1–2 weeks of training in Oregon)
Qualifications
Required Experience:
- Construction safety experience within data centers, industrial, or technology-related projects
- Experience operating in an Owner’s Rep / CM safety oversight role
- Strong understanding of multi-contractor coordination and safety governance
- Familiarity with electrical safety and substation construction environments
- Experience managing or supporting multiple projects simultaneously
Education (One of the following):
- Bachelor’s degree in safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field 3 years’ experience, OR
- 5 years of relevant construction safety experience
Certifications (Required):
- NFPA 70E
- CHST or CSP

- PPE provided onsite (excluding safety footwear)
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $125,000 – $150,000
