Job Description
The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring supplier process capability and product quality throughout the product lifecycle, from development through start of production and series production. This role works closely with internal cross‑functional teams and suppliers across North America to meet quality, safety, and production requirements.
Key Tasks
- Evaluate and qualify suppliers prior to sourcing decisions (e.g. VDA Potential Analysis).
- Support and lead suppliers during APQP and new product launches using VDA‑RGA.
- Conduct supplier process audits (VDA 6.3) and follow up on corrective actions.
- Perform production process and product approvals (PPA / VDA 2).
- Monitor supplier performance and KPIs against company quality targets.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions using 8D, 5‑Why, and similar methods.
- Drive continuous improvement and capture lessons learned for future projects.
- Support quality-related changes and issues during series production.
- Travel to supplier locations within North America.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Experience in manufacturing or quality engineering within an OEM or Tier 1 supplier.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of APQP, FMEA, PPAP, and supplier audits.
- Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional and cross‑cultural environments.
- Proficiency with basic measurement tools (e.g. calipers, micrometers).
- Willingness to travel regularly (25–50%).
Preferred Skills
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- VDA 6.3 auditor qualification.
- Tooling or commodity-specific expertise.
- Foreign language skills (German or Spanish).
