Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Principal Consultant – System Contracting to provide strategic leadership and subject matter expertise within the System Contracting department. This role is responsible for leading complex payer contracting initiatives, supporting value-based care strategies, developing financial models, and managing cross-functional projects that improve organizational performance.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in healthcare payer contracting, strong negotiation and project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership and multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage complex payer contract negotiations, including fee-for-service and value-based agreements.
- Serve as the project manager for strategic, cross-functional initiatives across the health system.
- Analyze contract performance and develop financial models to support payer negotiations and strategic decision-making.
- Act as the subject matter expert on payer contracts, reimbursement methodologies, payer relationships, and value-based contracting.
- Collaborate with internal departments including Revenue Cycle, Finance, Reimbursement, Analytics, and Primary Health to drive organizational initiatives.
- Evaluate contract opportunities and recommend strategies to improve financial and operational performance.
- Prepare executive-level presentations, reports, and recommendations.
- Manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Provide education and consultation to internal stakeholders regarding payer contracting strategies and reimbursement models.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by executive leadership.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of healthcare industry experience.
- Minimum 7 years of payer contracting experience, including at least 3 years of value-based contracting.
- Extensive project management experience leading complex strategic initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare reimbursement methodologies and managed care contracting.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation communication abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all organizational levels.
- Understanding of legal, business, and insurance operations principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
