Job Overview
The Houseperson supports the housekeeping team by maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming hotel spaces, including public areas, corridors, restrooms, service areas, and supply areas. This guest-facing role assists with stocking supplies, removing trash and soiled linen, responding to service needs, and reporting maintenance or safety concerns to help support a positive guest experience.
Job Responsibilities
Housekeeping Support & Area Care
- Support the housekeeping team by maintaining assigned corridors, service areas, linen closets, storage areas, public spaces, and other designated housekeeping areas according to hotel standards.
- Assist with cleaning and upkeep of lobbies, corridors, elevators, entryways, restrooms, pool areas, front-of-house areas, back-of-house areas, offices, and other assigned spaces.
- Assist with restroom cleaning and restocking, including supplies, dispensers, trash containers, floors, mirrors, counters, and fixtures as assigned.
- Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, polish, remove debris, and spot-clean surfaces, glass, furniture, doors, railings, fixtures, and other assigned areas as needed.
Supplies, Linen & Operational Support
- Stock and deliver linens, towels, amenities, paper products, cleaning supplies, pool towels, carts, and other assigned service items to support housekeeping operations.
- Collect, transport, and properly dispose of trash, recycling, soiled linen, and related materials from assigned areas.
- Report maintenance issues, spills, hazards, damaged fixtures, leaks, equipment concerns, supply shortages, or areas needing attention.
Guest, Team Member & Visitor Service
- Greet guests, team members, vendors, and visitors warmly and provide courteous assistance related to cleanliness, supplies, spills, directions, room support needs, or assigned areas.
- Maintain a respectful approach to guest privacy, guest room areas, employee work areas, office spaces, and hotel security procedures.
- Maintain a polished, approachable presence in guest-facing areas and represent the hotel in a professional and hospitality-focused manner.
- Communicate service, supply, cleanliness, or maintenance concerns promptly and appropriately to help maintain a positive guest experience.
Safety, Compliance & Standards
- Follow all hotel safety, sanitation, hygiene, chemical handling, linen handling, trash removal, restroom, pool area, public space, and housekeeping support procedures, and comply with company policies and housekeeping guidelines.
- Use assigned safety equipment and follow hotel response procedures when working in guest rooms, restrooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, offices, or other designated spaces.
- Promptly report threatening or unsafe conduct, spills, maintenance hazards, security concerns, injuries, and incidents.
- Complete required housekeeping, public area support, restroom sanitation, linen handling, trash removal, pool area safety, chemical handling, security response, human trafficking awareness, and workplace violence prevention training as assigned. Accurately follow procedures for tracking assigned areas serviced, supplies delivered, linen or trash removed, incidents, maintenance concerns, and related housekeeping records when required.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Previous hotel, housekeeping, houseperson, janitorial, custodial, public area, laundry, or cleaning experience preferred but not required.
Travel required: None.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of items up to 50 lbs.
- Continuous physical activity throughout shift in guest-facing areas, corridors, service areas, restrooms, pool areas, front-of-house areas, back-of-house areas, offices, and nearby housekeeping work areas.
- Ability to push and pull loaded housekeeping carts, linen carts, trash bins, cleaning equipment, supply carts, and related materials, which may require significant force depending on weight, flooring, and distance.
- Ability to work in various indoor environments with exposure to cleaning chemicals.
- Capacity to perform repetitive physical tasks efficiently and safely.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Effective time management and ability to complete assigned housekeeping support tasks efficiently while maintaining quality standards.
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated work ethic with the ability to follow assigned schedules, safety procedures, workload procedures, and reporting practices.
- Basic communication skills.
- Guest service mindset with the ability to remain friendly, professional, and calm in visible guest-facing and team member areas.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts as scheduled; overtime will be handled according to hotel policy and applicable law.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, restroom sanitation, linen handling, trash removal, and cleaning equipment is a plus; willingness to complete required housekeeping, safety, sanitation, and guest service training.
