Job Overview
The Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the hotel’s building systems and physical infrastructure. This role ensures all guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities are safe, functional, and maintained to brand standards, supporting a high-quality guest experience.

The Engineering Manager supervises maintenance staff, coordinates repairs, and ensures preventive maintenance programs are executed efficiently and on schedule. This role plays a key part in maintaining operational continuity and minimizing guest disruption.

This position operates in a fast-paced hotel or resort environment requiring an active presence throughout the property. Work involves hands-on maintenance, team supervision, and coordination with multiple departments and vendors. The role requires flexibility to work varied schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call availability for emergencies. Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a proactive, service-oriented approach.

Job Responsibilities

Leadership & Department Oversight

  • Supervise, train, and support maintenance technicians and staff.
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor work performance.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures and operational standards.
  • Support departmental goals aligned with overall hotel strategy.

Operations Management

  • Oversee maintenance and repair of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities.
  • Ensure timely response to maintenance requests and work orders.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues.
  • Maintain efficient daily operations of building systems.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Implement and manage preventive maintenance schedules for all equipment and systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and safety systems.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of maintenance logs and records.
  • Identify and address potential issues proactively.

Guest Experience

  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance concerns.
  • Coordinate with housekeeping and front office to minimize guest disruption.
  • Ensure guest rooms and public areas meet brand and operational standards.
  • Support a service-focused culture within the maintenance team.

Financial & Inventory Management

  • Manage inventory of tools, parts, and maintenance supplies.
  • Assist in monitoring and controlling maintenance-related expenses.
  • Recommend cost-effective repair and replacement solutions.
  • Support vendor coordination and procurement activities.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and hotel standards.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and address hazards promptly.
  • Support fire safety systems and emergency preparedness procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with brand maintenance expectations.

Energy Management

  • Monitor energy and water usage to identify efficiency opportunities.
  • Support initiatives to reduce utility consumption and operating costs.
  • Promote sustainable maintenance practices where applicable.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with housekeeping, front office, and other departments.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities to support room readiness and operations.
  • Communicate maintenance priorities and updates to leadership.
  • Support property-wide initiatives and operational goals.

Education: High school diploma or technical certification required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field preferred.

Experience: 3–7 years of maintenance or facilities experience required, preferably within hospitality, including some supervisory or team lead experience.

Travel required: No travel required; position is property-based.

Physical requirements:

  • Frequent walking throughout all hotel areas, including guest rooms and mechanical spaces.
  • Frequent standing, bending, and use of gross motor skills.
  • Regular lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of tools and equipment requiring fine motor skills.
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to respond quickly to maintenance issues and emergency situations.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building systems.
  • Proven troubleshooting and repair capabilities.
  • Leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Strong time management and prioritization abilities.
  • Effective communication and guest service mindset.
  • Attention to detail and strong safety awareness.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of budgeting and cost control.

Certifications: Relevant technical or safety certifications preferred (e.g., HVAC certification, OSHA training).
