Department Description
Student Experience is a division of HPU’s Office of Student Life that strives to foster a welcoming and engaging environment for all students that facilitates personal growth and development, a strong sense of campus community, and social engagement. As it relates to this position, the Student Experience team oversees the campus cinema & arcade, supervises the Campus Activities Team [CAT], and designs student programming & initiatives for the entire campus.
Job Description
As a student employee under Student Experience, you will gain experience with leadership, event management, marketing, interpersonal communication, facility operations, and customer service. The Campus Activities Team will assist with planning & executing student programs, designing marketing materials, will be cross trained to work in the cinema and/or arcade, and will support Student Experience staff with event execution. All members will represent CAT and the Student Experience team in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
Job Location/ Hours Required
- Ability to work weekdays, some weekends, and evenings (around class schedule)
- The candidate will perform most/all job duties at various program locations throughout campus, and at off-campus venture trip sites
- Hours may vary depending on the university calendar and upcoming program schedule; however, the maximum number of hours a student employee may work is 20 hours per week [25 during academic breaks]. This position requires an average minimum of 6-8 hours per week
- Must return to campus early and attend mandatory training sessions in August [date TBD]
Required Qualifications
- Current HPU student
- Good standing with HPU Community Standards
- Must maintain a professional social media presence
- Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.7 (cumulative)
Experience and Training
- Knowledge of HPU and understanding of the university’s culture and event policies are required
- Customer service experience preferred
- Activities and programming experience required
- Proficiency with Microsoft products, Canva, and various social media platforms is necessary
- Familiarity with AirTable preferred
Responsibilities
- Delivers the HPU experience through face-to-face, phone call, email, and social media interactions
- Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of High Point University, campus resources, policies, and guidelines
- Assists with planning and management of on-campus events, like weekly food trucks and exam break programs
- Assists with Welcome Week events including, but not limited to, Book & Package Delivery, Early Decision Block Party, Derby Day, Involvement Fair, and more
- Assists with university-wide events such as Family Weekend Bingo, student concerts, Homecoming events, etc. and ensures availability to work during all major, CAT-hosted events (around class schedule)
- Maintains an understanding of University Branding and Event policies and ensures all marketing and events adhere to both
- Maintains a sound understanding of the CAT Event Checklist and ensures all points are being met
- Communicates with event vendors, ensures service agreements are signed and on-file, and ensures a timely and university-approved plan vendor payment is established and carried out
- Communicates event needs and plan to supervisor and CAT president within a timely manner, aligning with the CAT Event Checklist
- Submits IT Helpdesk tickets and Campus Enhancement requests as needed or as requested
- Assists with general office-related tasks, such as printing posters and other event advertisements, organizing & tracking inventory, updating marketing displays, collecting content for marketing & social media marketings, maintaining cleanliness & organization of the CAT supply closet, etc.
- Assists Student Experience staff with chaperoning off-campus venture trips
- Prepared to represent Campus Activities at Admissions event Preview Fairs
- Recognizes sensitive internal information and exercises complete discretion when assisting in private matters
- Collaborates with members of the Student Experience team to ensure a quick resolution to any issues or concerns
- Executes multiple projects and job functions with efficiency
- Ability to communicate in a positive manner
- Ability to focus on details and prioritize tasks
- Works with a sense of urgency while maintaining composure Other duties as assigned
