Maintenance Technician I

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Assist with preventative maintenance and inspections related to commercial refrigeration systems and units under the direction of experienced technicians.

• Assist with preventative maintenance and inspections related to commercial air handling units, including basic monitoring, cleaning, and support tasks as assigned.

• Learn to use field service technology to record maintenance ticket information, document work completed, request parts, record time, and communicate follow-up needs.

• Communicate professionally with clients regarding basic maintenance work completed or next steps, with support from senior technicians when needed.

• Develop quality workmanship habits while completing assigned tasks safely, accurately, and within expected timelines.

• Stay organized and follow direction to ensure assigned tasks are completed correctly and documented appropriately.

• Participate in hands-on training, peer coaching, and ongoing learning to build technical knowledge and field service skills.

• Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following company procedures, safety rules, and regulatory requirements.

• Accurately report time, materials, and equipment used on jobs within the field service management software.

• Provide courteous customer service and represent GTR professionally while in the field.

• Demonstrate willingness to learn industry best practices, tools, equipment, and emerging technologies.

• Other assignments and responsibilities as necessary.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Mechanical aptitude and interest in learning commercial refrigeration, HVAC, and air handling systems.
• Ability to follow instructions, ask questions, and apply feedback in a hands-on work environment.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and as part of a team.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Good problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
• Commitment to safety, reliability, and quality workmanship.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Prior experience in HVAC, refrigeration, maintenance, construction, trades, or a related hands-on field is helpful but not required.
• Willingness to complete company-provided training and develop technical skills over time.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling.
• Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
• Manual dexterity to handle tools and equipment.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and varying temperatures.
• Good vision and hearing to detect issues and communicate effectively.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks and maintain focus for extended periods.

The Maintenance Technician I supports preventative maintenance and inspections on commercial refrigeration and air handling systems while learning GTR’s service standards, safety practices, tools, and field procedures. This role is intended for a motivated individual who is developing technical skills and will work under the guidance of experienced technicians, project managers, and the Operations Manager. Technicians will use service software to document work, manage parts, and track time while building confidence in client communication and quality workmanship.
