School Social Worker
The School Social Worker supports students' social, emotional, and behavioral well-being in order to promote strong attendance, academic success, and positive school engagement. Working within the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Special Education continuum, the School Social Worker collaborates with educators, families, and community partners to identify barriers to learning and connect students with appropriate supports.
This position plays an important role in helping students remain engaged in school, overcome personal or family challenges, and successfully progress toward graduation.
Core Responsibilities
Assess student needs and provide individual and small-group interventions to support social, emotional, and behavioral development.
Serve as a member of the school's crisis response team and provide crisis intervention when needed.
Deliver mandated related services in accordance with IEPs, including Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs), Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs), progress monitoring, and Medicaid documentation.
Participate in building-level student support and MTSS teams to review data, identify needs, and monitor intervention effectiveness.
Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive school climate that fosters belonging and student engagement.
Building-Specific Focus Areas
Attendance & Student Engagement
Support the development and monitoring of Attendance Success Plans for students experiencing chronic absenteeism. Work with families and school teams to identify and address barriers to consistent school attendance.
Academic Support & School Success
Collaborate with teachers and counselors to support students who are struggling to manage the academic and social demands of school. Provide coaching and intervention for students who are overwhelmed, disengaged, or at risk of dropping out.
Mental Wellness Screening & Early Intervention
Review and analyze school-based mental wellness screening data and help match students with appropriate Tier 2 supports, including short-term counseling groups, skill-building interventions, or community-based services.
School Climate & Student Belonging
Facilitate proactive drop-in groups and skill-building opportunities focused on stress management, conflict resolution, and strengthening students' sense of connection to school.
Intensive Supports
Coordinate individualized support plans for students experiencing significant challenges such as severe anxiety, trauma, homelessness, or family crisis. Work closely with outside providers and community organizations to ensure comprehensive support.
