Environmental Health and Safety Director
Our client located in Aurora, CO is adding an EHS Director to their team. This is a direct hire on site leadership role with regular travel to multiple operating locations

A large and growing industrial equipment and services organization operating across multiple locations in high risk environments including field operations, warehouse distribution, transportation, rental services, and mining related job sites. The organization is executive led, with a strong focus on operational execution, customer commitments, and workforce safety. The business has experienced significant growth in headcount and operational complexity, creating a need to elevate safety from a tactical function to an enterprise leadership discipline.
EHS Director Role:
This is a senior level EHS leadership role responsible for transforming and leading the organization’s environmental, health, and safety strategy across a complex multi location footprint.
The Director will serve as a member of the executive leadership structure and act as the primary architect of the company wide safety system.
The focus is not on day to day task execution but on building scalable programs, strengthening leadership accountability, and driving measurable cultural and operational change.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead enterprise wide environmental, health, and safety strategy across all operating locations
Transition EHS from tactical execution to a structured, scalable management system
Build and standardize safety programs, policies, and procedures across all business units
Strengthen and formalize safety training systems including onboarding and ongoing workforce development
Lead the evolution and full utilization of incident reporting systems including EHS Insights
Establish consistent root cause analysis methodology, ideally leveraging structured frameworks such as Taproot or equivalent
Develop and implement structured field observation and audit programs in partnership with operations leaders
Partner directly with executive leadership to align safety strategy with business objectives
Monitor and interpret regulatory requirements including OSHA, MSHA, and DOT and ensure compliance across all operations
Lead safety culture transformation across high risk operational environments
Provide executive level reporting, insights, and recommendations based on field data and risk trends
Oversee and develop a growing team of EHS professionals including specialists, training resources, and data support roles
Support expansion planning as the organization adds new operating locations
Represent the organization in external safety, regulatory, and industry related forums
Drive continuous improvement in accident prevention, hazard identification, and risk mitigation systems
EHS Director Background Profile:
The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical EHS expertise and strong organizational leadership capability.
Required experience and attributes:
Ten or more years of progressive environmental, health, and safety leadership experience
Experience operating in large, complex, multiple location environments with at least two thousand employees
Demonstrated leadership of teams of five or more EHS professionals
Strong working knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulatory environments
Background in high risk or heavy industrial environments such as mining, oil and gas, utilities, rail, logistics, or equipment rental and field service operations
Experience both operating within established EHS systems and building or rebuilding EHS programs
Proven ability to influence executive leadership and drive change through organizational alignment rather than direct control
Strong capability in translating field level risk into executive level strategy and action
Experience improving or implementing safety training systems, incident management systems, and root cause analysis processes
Strong analytical capability and ability to interpret safety data into actionable insights
High level of field credibility combined with executive presence
Preferred experience:
Exposure to multiple organizational environments across different companies or divisions
Experience in both structured safety organizations and transformation environments where systems were underdeveloped
Prior responsibility for multi location or multi state operations
