Position Overview
This company is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join their team during a critical payroll system implementation. This role will serve as a key partner to the Payroll Manager, helping oversee complex payroll operations while providing decision-making support throughout the transition to Workday.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience processing prevailing wage and certified payroll, has participated in payroll system implementations, and is comfortable working in multiple payroll platforms. This is a high-impact role requiring someone who can operate independently and bring senior-level payroll expertise to the team.
Key Responsibilities
• Process and oversee multi-state payroll with a strong focus on California payroll requirements.
• Manage prevailing wage and certified payroll processes with a high level of accuracy and compliance.
• Partner with the Payroll Manager to support daily payroll operations and serve as a senior resource for payroll-related decisions.
• Assist with the organization's Workday payroll implementation, including testing, validation, process improvements, and troubleshooting.
• Work within Aspire during the implementation period and help ensure continuity of payroll operations.
• Collaborate with HR, Finance, and project teams to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
• Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and support system optimization.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
Required Qualifications
• 5 years of payroll experience in a high-volume environment.
• Extensive experience with prevailing wage and certified payroll (required).
• Strong understanding of California payroll laws and compliance requirements.
• Experience participating in or leading payroll system implementations, preferably Workday.
• Experience with one or more payroll platforms such as Workday, Aspire, Paylocity, Paycom, or similar payroll systems.
• Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and serve as a trusted partner to payroll leadership.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with Aspire.
• Previous experience implementing or transitioning to Workday.
• CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is a plus.
