What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Manager position at Framework - Construction Recruiting?
Accounting Manager, Commercial Construction
Location: Orlando, FL
About the Opportunity
Framework has partnered with this with a well-established, mid-sized commercial general contractor in the Orlando market for half a decade and we are looking for an Accounting Manager. Our client has a strong project pipeline, a tenured leadership team, and a culture that rewards ownership, accuracy, and pragmatic problem-solving.
This is a hands-on leadership seat reporting directly to the CFO. It's the right fit for someone who wants real influence over how the accounting function runs, not just a title. You'll own day-to-day accounting operations, anchor the integrity of job cost and WIP reporting, and partner closely with project teams and operations leaders to keep cash flow, compliance, and decision-making on solid ground.
If you enjoy managing the details and building better processes and stronger teams behind them, this role is built for you.
What You'll Own Financial & Construction Accounting
- Lead full-cycle accounting: job cost, WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and margin analysis.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet) for leadership.
- Drive accurate, on-time month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
- Maintain GL integrity in accordance with GAAP and construction accounting best practices.
- Partner with the CFO on financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
Job Cost, WIP & Project Support
- Own the WIP schedule and job cost reporting cadence.
- Work shoulder-to-shoulder with Project Managers on job cost variances, change orders, and forecasted margins.
- Support accurate pay applications, progress billing, retention, and contract compliance.
AP, AR & Cash Flow
- Oversee AP and AR, including vendor invoices, subcontractor pay apps, lien waivers, and collections.
- Monitor cash flow, AR aging, retainage, and payables to protect liquidity.
- Coordinate with operations to resolve billing or collection issues quickly and cleanly.
Team Leadership & Internal Controls
- Supervise, coach, and develop the AP/AR team.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.
- Identify and implement process improvements that move the needle on accuracy and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with insurance, bonding, and subcontractor documentation requirements.
Audit, Tax & External Coordination
- Serve as the primary accounting contact for external auditors, tax preparers, bonding agents, and banks.
- Prepare schedules and support packages for year-end audit/review, tax filings, and bank/bonding requests.
- Ensure compliance with state, local, and industry-specific regulations.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required).
- 5 to 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with construction industry experience required.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with:
- Job cost accounting
- WIP reporting
- Construction billing and revenue recognition
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience required.
- CPA, CMA, or CCIFP is a plus (not required).
Systems & Technical Skills
- Experience with construction accounting platforms such as ComputerEase, Sage (100/300), Vista, Viewpoint, Procore, or similar.
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, analysis).
- Comfort operating in an environment where priorities shift between projects and deadlines.
Why This Role
- Direct line to the CFO. Visibility, ownership, and a real seat at the table.
- Healthy backlog and stable pipeline. You're stepping into momentum, not a turnaround.
- Process latitude. Bring your playbook. You'll have room to shape policies, controls, and the team.
- In-office collaboration in Orlando, close to project teams and operations, where construction accounting actually gets done.
