Assistant Controller
Chicago, IL (On-site)
A growing consumer brand is looking for an Assistant Controller to support and oversee core accounting operations. This role will manage the close process, oversee AR/AP, and ensure accurate financial reporting, with a strong focus on inventory and cost accounting in a retail or CPG environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Own monthly close, general ledger integrity, and financial reporting
- Oversee AR/AP and ensure accurate revenue, expense, and inventory accounting
- Manage inventory accounting across retail and eCommerce channels
- Analyze COGS, margins, and financial performance trends
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, sales, and merchandising
- Drive process improvements, systems enhancements, and internal controls
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc analysis
- Manage and review work of a small team
Qualifications
- 7 years of accounting experience, ideally in retail, CPG, or wholesale
- Strong inventory and cost accounting experience
- Experience managing or mentoring staff
- Advanced Excel and ERP experience (NetSuite a plus)
- Hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
