What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Winpak Portion Packaging?
Winpak is looking for an Assistant Controller to join their team based out of Sauk Village, Illinois.
Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner, the Assistant Controller will assume responsibility for supervision of the daily accounting responsibilities, general ledger ownership, and monthly financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Supervision and General Ledger Ownership
- Oversee the daily financial operations of the business unit and supervise the Senior Financial Accountant, Plant Accounting Managers and associated staff.
- Perform and oversee the financial consolidation of three manufacturing facilities.
- Assume general ledger ownership, overseeing the period-end close and subsequent financial reporting. Ensure an adequate system of internal controls are in place and operating effectively, safeguarding company assets and ensuring the integrity of financial data.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, cross-functional collaboration, and personnel development amongst the accounting team.
- Consolidate, analyze and interpret Plant-level analyses to convey the WPP high-level analysis and trends.
Budget and Forecasting
- Work closely with the Manager, Financial Planning and Forecasting on the budgeting and forecasting process.
- Oversee and coordinate the preparation of annual work center rates and production standards.
Other Miscellaneous
- Assist with internal and external audit requests Assist with budgets and forecasts (work center rates, etc.)
- Responsible for quarterly reports and statutory financial reporting
- Work on various cross-functional teams to drive and promote operational and commercial excellence. Special projects as assigned by the Senior Finance Partner or Director of Finance
Qualifications
- Post Secondary Education in Accounting or a relevant field
- 5 years of experience in financial accounting and reporting, including general ledger management, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
- 5 years of experience supporting or supervising accounting functions, including coordinating work and reviewing outputs across accounting teams.
- Experience with financial consolidation, including combining and reconciling results across multiple entities or locations.
- 5 years of experience in budgeting and forecasting, including working with finance partners to support planning processes.
- Experience supporting audits, including preparing documentation and responding to internal and external audit requests.
- Knowledge of internal controls and financial processes, with experience maintaining accurate and reliable financial data.
- Proficiency with financial systems and tools, such as ERP systems and spreadsheets for analysis and reporting.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends.
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to share financial information with different stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate across teams, supporting operational and financial objectives.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Additional Information:
Compensation Range: $132,000-$145,000. The compensation range provided is a general guideline only. Pay will be determined based on the candidate's experience and expertise and is subject to vary.
